For most people, the lead-up to the festive season is a roller-coaster ride of over-indulgence, fun celebrations, expectations about the big day and navigating busy high streets to find the perfect gifts. Frankly, it’s exhausting.

But when January finally comes, it can bring with it a bit of a lull. So what better time to encourage customers into your salon to get themselves a fresh new look, boosting their mood and setting themselves on the right track for an excellent year ahead?

Happily, it’s a post-Christmas indulgence that many people will be much more willing to justify than eating or drinking out, which they’re likely to have done to excess over Christmas and during the lead-up.

New Year Offers
In case they need a little more encouragement, think about special New Year offers that you can put together – everyone’s in the mood for a January bargain! Perhaps offer a discount on brand new hair colour, a beauty treatment to encourage them to kick-start their diet, or an indulgent massage to aid post-festive season stress.

New Year Resolutions
While many people will be setting themselves New Year’s resolutions, encourage your customers to make looking after themselves their ambition for 2015. Most of us don’t do that enough, but we know it’s important, so think about some New Year packages that you could compile, such as a block of nail treatments or a series of leg waxes at a discounted rate.

Total relaxation, total indulgence
Use your January promotional activity to highlight just how relaxing it can be at your salon. Encourage them to switch their phones off, settle down with a magazine and a delicious coffee, and take just an hour for themselves, as you transform their look.

Don’t forget the little touches
While everyone else is setting themselves resolutions, it’s a good time to set some for your business. Make January the time to make sure you’re offering the best experience for your customers. The little touches like coffee are surprisingly important. We know from our research that 61 per cent of Brits say the smaller details like coffee are important in salons*. So make sure you’re getting that bit right. A delicious café-style coffee is one of the easiest things you can do with little investment. Make sure you’ve got a coffee machine that’s up to the job.
