Great Lengths support British army veteran on Everest challenge

Award-winning premium hair extension brand Great Lengths is proud to announce its support of British Army veteran Leslie Binns in his second expedition to climb Mount Everest.

Leslie, 42, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was in the Army for 13 years serving in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan and has been awarded two medals including the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery.

Great Lengths specialist and owner of Hallas Hair, Joanne Hallas contacted Great Lengths to secure support for Leslie and help him tackle the expedition for the second time. Recognising Leslie’s outstanding achievements and ongoing commitment, Great Lengths wanted to support Leslie in his expedition to achieve his life-long ambition.

Wanting to prove that injured ex-servicemen could achieve their respective goals, in 2015 Leslie made his first attempt to summit the world’s highest mountain – Mount Everest, at 8848m. However, 500m from the summit, Leslie had to sacrifice his all-time goal and his life to help the lives of other climbers who were in the notorious death zone, causing him to abandon his journey.

After giving up his lifelong dream of conquering Mount Everest, Leslie received an overwhelming amount of support from all around the world, praising him for his bravery and encouraging him to reach the summit again.

“Leslie’s story truly captured my heart and I immediately wanted to help towards his sponsorship for Mount Everest,” said Joanne.

Following the global support and encouragement from friends and family, Leslie decided he was going to continue to pursue his goal and attempt to climb Mount Everest again and Great Lengths are honoured to be a part of this amazing challenge.

Due to Leslie’s remarkable bravery and determination, and with the support of charitable sponsorships, in April 2017 he began to embark on his second journey to reach the summit, aiming to complete his expedition in early June.

“Great Lengths and Hallas Hair have supported me through financial sponsorship and sharing my story which has helped to generate the interest of others,” said Leslie. “I cannot thank them enough for their support and it will be a great honour for me to stand on the world’s highest peak holding their flag!”

Great Lengths continues to look out for exceptional feats of charity and charitable giving to support and praise, from one-off events like Leslie’s, all the way to its direct partnership with The Little Princess Trust.

All funds raised are going to ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity who helped Leslie through his medical discharge.
