It’s all in the family for Q Hair & Beauty as it welcomes a new addition this month – the team’s fundraising efforts to help fund IVF treatment for administrator, Gina Madgwick, have resulted in the happy arrival of her baby boy on 1st April.
The Chichester salon collected an amazing £6,000 to pay for the procedure, after Madgwick struggled with two failed rounds of IVF. A true team effort, fundraising took the form of all kinds of creative ideas, from a Lands End to John O’Groats cycle, a sponsored moustache-growing, and dress-down Fridays with staff contributions helping to steadily fund the amount.
Clients also got involved with small donations in return for complimentary fringe trims, as well as some generously boosting funds with individual donations as high as £50.
The biggest fundraiser was Q’s annual Cutathon Sunday when the entire team gave up their day off to come into the salon and offer a whole range of treatments, with all proceeds and donations going into the fund pot. The 2014 theme was Alice in Wonderland and at the end of the fun-packed day, founder Anthony Barnes-Smith and MD Dawn Lawrence were able to hand over a cheque for £6,000 to a thrilled Madgwick.
Madgwick, who joined the Q family at just 14, commented: “I was overwhelmed. I hadn’t seen myself as anything special, just as an employee going in every day to do a job I loved. When Dawn told me the salon was going to find ways to pay for my third IVF, I really hadn’t expected anything like that.
“I was so touched that for the cutathon, my colleagues had given up their Sunday to do that for me and some of their relatives and even our Tiger Club girls had come in to help. All those people did so much for me. It was a really emotional day and my partner, Lee, was in tears at the end.
“He was overwhelmed that a company would do such a big thing and we were both over the moon. I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped to make our dream of having a baby come true, especially Dawn and Anthony and the Q team and our guests. Without them, it wouldn’t have happened.”
On her decision to raise funds for her team member, Lawrence said: “Q is very much a family and Gina is one of our own – we would have done the same for anybody here because you end up wanting the best for them. Raising the money has been a real team effort that everyone at the salon has been involved with.”
