Last week, more than 3,000 hairstylists and salon owners descended on Las Vegas for for this year’s Gathering with Paul Mitchell. The two-day education event celebrated the theme of “rEvolution” with live music, brilliant choreography, and incredible acrobatics just some of the excitement on offer.
Proceedings kicked off with a music video featuring co-founder John Paul DeJoria and his wife and long-time John Paul Mitchell Systems spokesmodel, Eloise DeJoria. Eloise then took to the stage to welcome audience members and live stream viewers, as well as announce the company’s latest accomplishments, such as a revamped Paul Mitchell website, a new “Live Beautifully” campaign and the launch of new products, including the Ultimate Colour Repair quinoa colour-locking system and the MarulaOil brand, due to launch in early 2015.
Day one also featured a number of on-stage presentations: a rainforest-themed dance by a group of children to spotlight the eco-conscious Tea Tree line and its Green Takeover mission; an introduction to Ultimate Colour Repair by global artistic director Robert Cromeans; catwalk presentations; a barbershop trio; sporting shows; and a showcase of the new Origami collection, with models dressed in colourful geometric designs.
Amongst all the entertainment, 16 hands-on workshops covered colour, cuts, styles and business, with superstar stylists and speakers including Paul Mitchell editorial director, Lucie Doughty, artistic directors Scott Cole and Linda Yodice, VP or education Stephanie Kocielski, and industry icon Takashi.
The closing show on day two commended with Robert Cromeans flying in by way of wires and balloons before introducing John Paul DeJoria and Angus Mitchell who reminded views of the Hawaii Seminar in January 2015, before the entire team of stylists led a radical colour demonstration.
