When you’re taking the salon “on the road” your kit bag is your lifeline! Having the appropriate tools and styling products is essential and if that means packing up your entire salon then so be it! If you have a big enough bag to carry it all in…

If not, then you need to scale down on your essentials and only pack up your must have products for a kit bag that will get the job done perfectly and suit any scenario. Alex Thaddeus Stylist and founder of Alex Thaddeus Hairdressing takes us through her must-have kit bag essentials to help you pack lighter for the next time you need to take your salon on the move!

Brushes

The Brushes I take on the road with me is forever changing, I swap them out depending on what my favourites are that week and the task at hand, but I will say that I have four staple non-negotiable brushes that I like to keep on hand in my kit bag.

YS Park Extra Long Pin Tail comb: I especially like this comb for its extra-long tail allowing for efficient, clean and precise sections before any cut and colour.

Primp Boar Bristle Brush: This is my go-to brush for any up-do/styling work because it makes any style perfectly sleek and smooth.

Blue Finishing Brush: This one is also perfect for smoothing out the hair whilst styling any finishing touches, without disturbing the foundation of the style and taming any rogue flyways.

Mason Pearson Dressing Comb: This comb is my ride-or-die simply because it’s so durable, it features both fine and medium teeth making it perfect for working with long hair that tangles easily.

Electrical

When it comes to electrical tools, I usually swap these out depending on the job. Typically, I always have a Ghd Air Hair dryer because its perfect for styling and drying the hair faster than any other hair dryer, I’ve used, making it the ideal tool when on the road. I also like to keep on hand, my wireless Wella clippers for seamless clipper cut work.

An important accessory to carry with you along with any electrical tools is heat protectant mats to place your hot tools on, because you never want to risk damaging your styling station.

Styling

Styling products are the one thing that I never skimp out on in my kit bag because it’s always better to be over prepared with what you might need rather than under prepared. My current styling product kit bag essentials are:

Oribe Dry Texture Spray: This texturising spray is great for adding the perfect amount of volume to any style, whilst nurturing and protecting the hair from any damage.

Oribe Gel Serum Radiance: The Oribe Gel Serum is perfect for designing and keeping any shiny wet looks lasting all event long without looking too stiff. This product also has moisturising serum properties keeping the hair hydrated and protected whilst its styled.

Goldwell Style Sign Working Hairspray: This hairspray is especially good at battling humidity and frizz on colour or stressed hair and is a necessity within the warmer months. With a flexible hold this hairspray is the ideal hairspray to keep on hand. For all scenarios.

Finally, I always like to carry a selection of cover, setting and sectioning clips as these are handy throughout any styling process. Pins in blonde, brown and black colours are kept on hand as well for any updo styling. Most importantly I like to keep a hairnet on hand in my kit bag as my trusty secret weapon to ensure no flyaway sneak out in any of my styles.
