A Week in the Life of Marlene Lamont
From salon work, to education and admin days, my days differ from week to week, making me always left to wonder what’s to come. Being the Owner of Urban Hair & Beauty in Auchinleck to the Project Leader for Project Extend 2026, keeping busy is something I have no problem with!
Monday – Admin Day No two days are the same for me, but Mondays always kickstart the week with an admin day! As Urban Hair & Beauty is closed on a Monday, this allows me to catch up on all things business and plan for my week ahead. Blocking time for financial check-ins, payroll and strategic planning makes for a smooth sailing week for me. It also gives me the time to respond to client queries, update rotas factoring in any holidays and training days, and check the salon environment, making sure workstations are organised and deep cleaned for the week ahead.
Tuesday – A day with the family Tuesday rolls around and it’s another free day due to the salon being closed, meaning I am on babysitting duties – my favourite day of the week! Living in Auchinleck means there is plenty to do with my grandchildren and is a great way to step away from work during the week. Taking a walk along Lugar Water and stopping to play in the park is perfect, especially in the Scottish sun!
Wednesday – A day in the salon Mid-week means returning to the salon for the first day it’s open during the week – a busy one! With loyal, returning clients for over 20 years, being in the salon whizzes by due to constant catch ups and laughs with the team. Urban Hair & Beauty has over 20 stylists, all specialising in a number of different areas. The team also love to showcase their skills and team dynamic on social media, so a few TikToks are filmed along the way.
Thursday – An education day With education being at the core of everything I do, I am always up for learning something new! Being brand ambassador for Mood Hair Colour means joining the Mood Lifestyle Team for all of their education days – allowing me to learn from a team of incredible hair stylists. Everything I learn gets taken back with me to the salon and passed on to the team. I believe passing on education to the next generation of hairdressers helps encourage creativity and confidence.
Friday – A day with Project Extend As Project Extend leader, some days I’m jetting off all over the UK for exciting Project days with the team. Our most recent education day was with Zen Hair Extensions learning all about sewing wefts and the team left feeling inspired and excited to apply what they learned to their day-to-day work. Each Project day is incredible and the team’s bond grows stronger after every session!
