BLOG: Salon System’s Ruth Atkins on tailoring brow and lash treatments for mature clients

We all want to look like we did 10 years ago, but as we age we have to consider that lashes and brows need to be done more moderately.

Age doesn’t necessarily mean that your mature client can’t commit to having lash and brow treatments done in the salon, they just need a technician that can adapt to suit to their needs. These important clients are so rewarding when you get the results right. There are just a few factors to consider:

BE AWARE OF NEW TECHNIQUES, TREATMENTS AND BE PREPARED TO RETRAIN

You must always be one step ahead of your clients. Nowadays, with the internet and celebrity magazines, the general public are quick to pick up on any new treatments and trends out there and you, as their therapist, will be their first port of call when it comes to discussing them and putting them into practice. Makes sure that you always keep abreast of the newest trends and techniques and have a well-informed opinion so you can advise suitably.

There are also some great one-day courses available to keep you at the top of your game and to refresh your skills. Choose a course that has accreditation and with a brand you can trust like Training Solutions and Salon System. Also, it’s paramount that you read beauty trade magazines like The Salon Magazine so you know what’s happening within the industry and what beauty shows are taking place.

KNOW HOW TO ADAPT YOUR TREATMENTS TO SUIT YOUR CLIENTS

Once you’re fully trained with a wealth of experience under your belt, you should be confident enough to put together a treatment plan for clients of all ages and needs.

Aging clients often offer a challenge as their skin and hair changes with the onset of the menopause; what lovely lashes and brows they once had, may become weakened and lessened so you need to work sympathetically.

Eyebrow tints look great in light browns and graphites, or a mix of both, while brow extensions are also a great treatment for non-existing brows and for adding a frame to the face.

Lash lifts are highly recommended for an aging client as they lasts 6-8 weeks. The treatment requires zero maintenance and works wonders for giving lift and enhancing length. If you’d like to create the illusion of natural luscious lashes, try adding a tint.

With ageing clients, weakened eyesight may be a problem, so something with little or no maintenance like Salon System Marvelash Lash Extensions always works well. Three week lash in-fills can be done for long lasting length and volume too. If using strip lashes these will need to be soft and sophisticated.

Remember, whatever age your client is, bespoke your treatments and be willing to adapt. By doing so, you can create some great results that will make your aging client feel and look years younger again.
