A large number of factors influence clients when choosing a new salon. They may be easily swayed by price or convenience, but as reputable beauty professionals it is vital we teach our client base to seek out therapists that are suitably trained and insured.

If a person is ill they will not go to a backstreet doctor’s surgery, so why are they willing to pay less to visit a salon run by amateurs with no qualifications or insurance? The answer is that they are simply not aware of the risks. It is our job to teach clients the dangers of not properly researching a salon before visiting.

To make it easier for clients to find reputable beauty professionals The Guild of Beauty Therapists has established The Professional Registers for Beauty Therapists, Holistic Therapists and Nail Technicians. The people listed in these databases all hold the required qualifications and training to enable them to work in the professional beauty industry and are all insured. This allows clients to book treatments with confidence, safe in the knowledge that they will be treated by professional and insured therapists.

Professionals who are listed on the registers all agree to abide by a strict code of ethics and maintain their knowledge, skills and commitment through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training and courses.

The Professional Registers were established by The Guild to help drive up standards across the professional beauty sector and give clients added confidence in the industry and the professionals who work in it.

All Guild members who hold insurance are entitled to have their names placed on the appropriate Professional Register. The Professional Registers are also open to non-Guild members who meet the entry and insurance criteria for Guild membership and can show that they hold insurance for the safety of their clients. If you are not a member of the Guild, you can apply to join the Professional Registers for an annual fee of just £29 + VAT.
