How to Create an Inclusive Salon Environment
ROAR are known as Glasgow’s most inclusive salons. Founded by Brian Leo McCallum, ROAR has created a brand where all team members are equally as important as each other. As part of their business plan, ROAR always knew they wanted to be a space for everyone.
Salons should provide an open and inclusive environment for all. There are certain extra steps that need to be considered for those with any additional requirements and this will help to make the guest experience as straightforward as possible and reduce any anxiety surrounding the appointment. ROAR’s Brian Leo McCallum has shared the ways in which he has made his salon more accessible and welcoming for those with additional needs.
It is important to make the salon adaptable so you can cater to those with physical disabilities. For instance, our service can be altered for those in wheelchairs so guests can still receive a relaxing experience and be treated as an equal.
We can also offer private appointments for anyone who perhaps is experiencing a personal matter in which they require a more comfortable surrounding. When prebooked, we can ensure we provide a safe and gentle environment where our guest can fully relax. These can be booked in advance and with an award winning and specialist team member, ensuring their needs and requirements are met at all times.
Some disabilities are less visible but can still hugely impact an individual’s experience. We offer a low sensory experience which involves using dimmed lighting in a quieter environment, which can be helpful for those who struggle with over-stimulation and require a calm environment.
Additionally, guests can also book in for a ‘silent appointment’ where there will be no speaking between themselves and the stylist. This can really benefit those who have anxiety and provide a safe space for them.
Inclusivity should be an essential theme within every salon so all individuals can receive the respect they deserve. Salon owners should constantly strive to make their space accessible for all individuals.
