Kent’s Aitch & Aitch crowns Student of the Year

Kent-based Aitch & Aitch salon group recently gathered along with friends and family at their West Wickham salon in Kent to hold their annual apprentice awards.

The biennial celebration of training and development sees all apprentices from both Beckenham and West Wickham salon locations compete to be awarded the title of Student Of The Year.

Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés while creative team co-ordinator, Suze Barker, and salon co-ordinator, Susanne Semmence, compered the evening and introduced all the apprentices.

Competing apprentices were tasked with researching and presenting an iconic hairdresser career to the audience, recreating one of their well known looks and providing evidence of their research. Icons chosen included Vidal Sassoon and Leonard. Following this, the apprentices impressed with their practical skills as they presented both a female and male model.

Joined and judged by Unite education team member, Gary Baker, the winner was announced as Sabrina Benltaief who won the coveted trophy along with Topshop vouchers and a bag of hairdressing tools.

Salon owner, James Hallahan, congratulated everyone on their work on the project, commenting: “We work in a unique industry, which shares its skills with everyone. There will be very few hairdressers who cannot trace their roots back to the two old Masters, Vidal Sassoon and Leonard.  They changed the way people thought about hair.”
