To raise awareness and money for Refuge, national domestic violence charity for women and children, make-up brand Benefit has organised a charity run from Scotland to London!
Caroline Flack will be fronting the campaign and kicking off the proceedings in Edinburgh by running the first 2 miles. The TV personality has commented on the campaign;
“I was thrilled to be asked to be an Ambassador for the Benefit and Refuge MASCARATHON. With one woman in every four experiencing domestic violence at some point in her life, I hope the MASCARATHON highlights this terrible statistic and in turn raises much needed funds for Refuge. Please join me in supporting this invaluable initiative.”
Other celebrity runners will be running 2 miles each to mark the 2 women a week who lose their lives to domestic violence.
Along the way there will be a range of consumer areas for runners and friends to visit including make-upper stations and sample giveaways, a make-up fans dream! To add a touch of Benefit’s sense of fun there will be a mascara ‘baton’ which will be passed from runner to runner (each running 2 miles each) who will run from city to city.
Benefit’s Managing Director Ian Marshall and General Manager Gail Borjaski have stated in regards to their involvement;
“2012 is a very significant year – and NOT just because of a certain HUGE event in London this summer. At Benefit, there is another significant reason to celebrate. ‘They’re Real’ has been the most extraordinary launch in our history and is already the No1 premium mascara in the UK. We just HAD to celebrate in style…….EVEN BETTER, have a ball AND raise HEAPS of money for a particularly deserving cause all at the same time. We immediately chose to partner Refuge, whose work we SO admire and who provide brilliant help and support for thousands of women and their families. MASCARATHON will see the Benefit family, friends and fans throughout the UK join in in the 500 + miles run starting in Edinburgh, taking in 7 major UK cities and finishing in London 15 days later. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome to do so –there’s fun to be had and money to be raised so no one needs to worry about running prowess…we hope you can join us and COME PARTY!!”
Sandra Horley, CBE and chief executive of Refuge says:
“We are delighted to be working with Benefit, and all of their representatives and customers, in the MASCARATHON event.
This event will reach out to women throughout the country who may personally be experiencing domestic violence – or who will know someone experiencing domestic violence. Together, Benefit and Refuge will empower women with essential life changing information to help them keep safe and live a life free from violence and fear. Taking a stand and speaking out against domestic violence to raise awareness of the problem is an important part of Refuge’s work – and we are delighted that Benefit is getting behind the cause and leveraging its support base to reach out to women.
Every two miles that each of the MASCARATHON runners complete will mark the two women a week whose lives are lost because of domestic violence.
By raising awareness and funds for vital domestic violence services, Benefit and Refuge will be able to reach out to many thousands more women who need support. Together we will change and save lives.”
