And Project Afro spent the day at the House of Sassoon, Soho, London to go through the logistics of a photoshoot with award winning photographerChris Bulezuik.

To kick off the month of May, the F.A.M.E. Team spent their day withAlastair Jubbs, former F.A.M.E. Team member & Founder and Director of Curated Hair at Mash Creative Studio. Alastair’s session work has seen him travel internationally and work with brands such as Burberry.

His work can be seen in the likes of Vogue, Hunger, Numero and Dazed and Confused. Alastair has become known for his wig work and was described by 10 Magazine as one “of the hottest wig makers in the business”.

Alastair’s plans for the day were based around a fashion project, which gave the team a real in-depth look at the fashion industry, with communication being the exact same that Alastair would receive on a shoot.

The F.A.M.E. team were walked through the process of conceptualising a photoshoot with Alastair, sharing his session styling techniques. With 6 models, multiple locations, and styling, it was a challenging yet incredibly rewarding day.

Harry Andreou said: “The day with Alastair walked us through the process of conceptualising a photoshoot and shared his session styling techniques. With 6 models, multiple locations, and styling, it was a challenging yet incredibly rewarding day. As also a huge thank you to Sally for organising these great mentors for us.”

For their second team day, The F.A.M.E. team then deep dived into the minds of industry legends and a day of Avant Garde work with Angelo Seminara, one of the most captivating and original hair stylists of our time. Four-time winner of the British Hairdresser of the Year Award, his work is hugely influential and is avidly followed by hair professionals, photographers, stylists and models the world over. Angelo demonstrated his innovative thinking and showed us how to nurture an idea from inception to fruition. The team completed a look on tuition heads and at every cut, twist and pull, with Angelo pushed them further throughout the session. An incredible day for the team learning from one of the best in the industry, motivating the team to elevate their craft.

Ilaria Bellemo comments: “Angelo’s expertise in innovative hair techniques was evident from the start, and his passion for the craft was contagious. Throughout the day, we delved into a variety of advanced techniques, Angelo’s demonstrations were not only technically impressive but also artistically inspiring. He showed us how to create stunning textures that push the boundaries of traditional hairdressing. Angelo encouraged us to experiment, think outside the box, and develop our own unique styles. This journey left us all feeling inspired and motivated to elevate our craft.
It was a privilege to learn from one of the best in the industry.”

Project Colour had a very exciting day at the Trevor Sorbie Academy in Covent Garden withTrevor Sorbie’s Creative Director and Project Colour mentor, Giuseppe Stelitano. Only a few years ago, Giuseppe Stelitano was a barista in the Trevor Sorbie salon in Covent Garden, having moved from Italy to follow his dreams. Giuseppe’s passion for the hairdressing industry drove him to switch trades, complete an intense training programme and emerge as a game-changing colourist for the legendary London salon where he is now their Creative Director.

The team were given a taste of what the Trevor Sorbie Scholarship entails, focusing on creativity and the looks that Giuseppe has created over the years. He talked the team through where he finds inspiration, his creative process, and his love of mood-boards.

Ben, one of the Trevor Sorbie Creative Team Ambassadors joined the session to demonstrate his Marble technique to the team. Then it was all hands-on deck, as the team let their creativity flow, replicating his technique whilst giving their own spin to it.

Amelia Krasinski said: “Spending the day with Giuseppe and Ben was so inspiring. Loved trying something different and something I wouldn’t normally do.  It got us all into the creative flow of thinking outside the box. I’ve come away from yesterday looking at hair in a completely different way and that you can literally create anything! there is no right or wrong it’s what you make it!”

And, perhaps one of the most exciting team days in Project Afro’s calendar – photoshoot preparations! The team spent the day at the House of Sassoon, Soho, London to go through the logistics of a photoshoot with award winning photographerChris Bulezuik, who will also be their photographer on their photoshoot. Chris’ passion for photography gave the team a better understanding of how pictures are taken to achieve different looks, giving the team inspiration for their photoshoot.

Natasha Stantic Brajovic said: “Another beautifully configured workshop in legendary Sassoon building with photographer Chris Bulezuik who introduced us to his world behind the lenses. This lesson covered photography in hair industry, its creative side, planning, production, team building, communication and we tackled some legal aspects. It was really interesting both for salon owners and freelancers. The goal of the workshop was to bring team minds together and to bring us one step closer to the vision for our team collection and photoshoot. The methods Chris used already proved successful by the end of the session.”
