Palm Springs Hair and Beauty, 322 Northdown Road, Margate, Kent

Owner of Palm Spring Hair and Beauty, Chloe Murphy, revealed that ever since she first became self-employed at a previous salon, she was keen to create her own look, which over time would establish a brand that stood out from your usual beauty salon: “It was at that point I chose to go in the direction of palm leaves. Bringing in the beauty and simplicity of nature into my work. The business cards were the start of my palm springs journey. I wanted to keep this theme and transfer it to my own salon. I spent a long time looking for my perfect palm leaf wallpaper and then based the rest of my design around it. I wanted the feel of calming tones to resonate throughout the salon and the use of plants added a fresh feeling.”

After opening on the 20th August 2019, Palm Springs has got off to a flying start as an all-inclusive hair and beauty salon. Chloe feels that if they had chosen to limit the business to just beauty or just hair, it could potentially alienate a handful of clients:

“Throughout my 8 years’ experience in this industry, I have learnt that the majority of my clients choose to have all their services carried out in the same place. This is why I chose to offer as many different services I could under one roof. From this we have gained a lot more new clients as they are trying different services through each visit whilst also keeping our existing clients.” Added Chloe.

When we asked Chloe about the reasoning behind the name of the salon, she revealed that it wasn’t plain sailing… We wouldn’t know where to start either! Chloe explained that it was a difficult process to find a name which fitted the salon: “I didn’t want to use my name, the reason for this was because I wanted my team members to feel as much a part of the salon as I am, as I wouldn’t be able to follow this dream without them. Another reason for Palm Springs was because I knew I wanted to stick with my palm leaf design and the name really stuck with me because it’s such a beautiful place, that sounds idyllic and really kept to my theme with all the palm trees.”

The attention to detail throughout the salon is astonishing, after our Editor, Jade visited Palm Springs, she was able to see for herself the effort which has been put in. From the dusky pink velvet chairs to match the pink walls, to the Versace Palm Tree Leaf wallpaper which harmonised the chic stall in the reception, the delicate potted plants adding a real sense of life and the industrial lightbulb fixtures dotted over the salon to give a finishing touch – the interior works so well with the aura of the salon. Of course, all of these elements are what often what make a client return, if the atmosphere feels right they will me more inclined to come back – and it seems that is exactly what’s happening here.

Chloe told us that the clients are receiving the salon exceptionally well: “It’s so exciting to hear the feedback we’ve been getting. As a new salon and a new business owner, any feedback we get means we can constantly improve on our look and give our clients a high level of comfort and satisfaction.”
