Managing Director at Native Lighting, Clare Donnelly, sheds some light on the brand in an exclusive interview.

When and how did Native Lighting start?
Native Lighting was set up in 2019. I noticed a gap in the market for affordable daylight lamps for beauticians, crafters, artists and people with low levels of vision. Over the years, I’ve talked to many daylight lamp users, and their feedback has always been the same: the light does not stay where they want it. Taking this on board, a number of our lamps have a strong flexible goose neck so the light will always stay in the required position.

Tell us a bit of background about yourself.

What’s your career background?
I have been in the lighting industry for 15 years and worked in many sectors including beauty, industrial, medical and low vision. I realise how important it is to have the right light for your projects. When working with colours, having daylight simulation technology is essential.

 

What products do you offer?
We have a selection of Task lamps and Magnifiers and a variety of USB and rechargeable products, so we have no issues around voltage and plugs when selling
overseas. In addition, the lamps are great for saving energy.

What challenges did you overcome as a new company?
Introducing a new brand is always a challenge but I’m well known in the industry and our customers know and trust me from my years of experience in the business. I have also been happy to take on new designs and technology.

 

What product are you currently most excited about?
The Lumina lamp. It’s such a fantastic light and with its long reach it’s great for using over a beauty bed or just working at a table or in the chair. It comes in two versions a desk lamp and a floor lamp. With 5 different colour temperatures, each with 5 brightness settings you have the choice of 25 different light settings in total. There will always be a setting that suits your eyes and helps you work more comfortably.

 

Are you planning on expanding into other product areas?
We are always working on new designs, so watch this space!

 

Has the current economic climate and the pandemic affected your business?
The hardest thing has been the lack of face-to-face meetings with potential customers, but technology has been our friend with Zoom product meetings. It’s enabled us to keep in touch with our customers. I think everybody has found a new way of working and Native is constantly adapting.

 

How do you market your business? Do you attend any trade shows?
Yes, we attend as many trade shows as possible and usually exhibit in partnership with our distributors. We love chatting to end users and we always take their feedback back to our design department.  We also have a number of Brand Ambassadors who regularly talk about our products on television channels and social platforms.

 

Where do you see yourself in five years?
As an established brand and the go-to supplier for anyone who is looking for a good quality light.
