Suffolk salon helps young Ugandan hair students

YOUNG people trying to forge vital careers in one of the poorest parts of Africa are being supported by a Suffolk based salon group and charity.

Staff at John Michael Hairdressing, which has branches across Suffolk, were delighted to support long standing client, David White who works for Ipswich based charity, Tools With A Mission (TWAM)

TWAM supply refurbished work tools  of all kinds to charities across the globe including Uganda. The hair tools supplied by John Michael were sent to help young people learning vocational skills with the charitable Kawempe Youth Development Association in Kampala.

Learning skills such as hairdressing offers young Ugandans the chance to earn a living. Mr White was lucky enough to see the equipment sent by the John Michael Team being used during teaching sessions at the Association’s centre.

He added: “On a recent visit to Uganda I watched a group of young people learning hairdressing skills from a tutor using a model head that had been provided by the John Michael team.

“It was great to get the chance to see the tools actually being used  during training sessions. Giving these people the tools necessary to go out and do the job means they have a real chance of earning their own living.”
