Italian sustainable haircare brand Davines has revealed the winner of its global campaign, I Sustain Beauty, with Peruvian hairdresser Salvatore Giaquinta and his son taking out first place for their training program for women living in poverty.

The I Sustain Beauty campaign, which launched in October 2014 to promote sustainable beauty, saw contributors take part from 22 countries including the UK, USA, Australia and South Africa, realising projects across various artistic disciplines with an aim to make the world a more beautiful place. It concluded on the 20 July 2015, with an internal panel examining each contribution and judging it on the level of personal commitment, its impact on others and its capacity to generate new beauty.

The overall winner, Giaquinta, joined forces with his son, also a hairdresser, to fund the opening of a school in Lima, where impoverished women could train in cutting and colouring, enabling them to find work and turn their lives around.

A special mention went to Davines stylist, Candice Wyatt Minter, who restored a collection of wigs to donate to people suffering from hair loss, as a result of chemotherapy. Italian hairdresser Antonio Pavani earned special mention for ‘The Enchanted Garden’, the environmental project which saw him restoring a park near to his salon.

Finally, Anor Tukaeva earned a special mention in the Artistic Beauty category, for saving the church of Krokhino, in Russia , from being destroyed.

Following the huge success of I Sustain Beauty, a second part to the campaign is planned and will be launched at the Davines World Wide Hair Tour in LA in January 2016.
