All of our products are formulated with at least 70% organic content (excluding water and salt). Organic content includes nature-based ingredients grown or harvested without the use of conventional or synthetic pesticides and fertilisers.
Each organic ingredient utilised in our formulas has been certified by an accredited organic certifying organisation. All USDA Certified Organic products have at least 95% organically produced ingredients (excluding water and salt). All remaining ingredients are on the National List approved by the USDA National Organic Program.
Founded in 1994 by the Original Organic Beauty Pioneer, John Masters Organics was born from a simple but radical idea: that nature is the best source for clean beauty without risk.
A personal passion for healthy, holistic living became a professional calling, drawing John, a leading stylist, away from the world of up-market New York salons to pursue a better, gentler way to care for hair. Working with the best organic ingredients available and seeing clients out of his tiny New York apartment eventually led John to open the world’s first ‘clean air’ salon in Soho, a revolutionary salon concept with no chemical treatments, no damaging colourants – not even hairspray.
Today, this singular vision has become a global brand that continues to lead the way in organic and natural beauty. What began with a few handmade products made over the kitchen sink now includes a full line of haircare, skincare, and body care.

The secret behind a sulphate-free lather
When it comes to natural hair care, many companies have chosen to eliminate sulphates, leaving their shampoos without lather entirely. These formulas tend to be thinner and more difficult to evenly distribute throughout the hair and scalp, which makes it tough to get an all-over clean feeling. Unfortunately, this has left natural shampoos with a reputation of being inadequate, or simply not being as enjoyable to use as a shampoo formulated with sulphates.
Luckily, sulphates aren’t the only way to get a great lather.
In all of our shampoos at John Masters Organics, we use naturally derived surfactants sourced from coconuts, that provide our formulas with a rich, creamy foam, making every wash feel luxurious. In our fan-favourite Shampoo For Normal Hair With Lavender & Rosemary we use coconut-derived Cocamidopropyl Betaine to create our signature lather so you can enjoy a lush, effective wash that evenly distributes throughout hair for healthy, naturally clean locks from root to tip.
