Standing out
Celebrity Hair Stylist Jack Luckhurst is back with a bang as he was the mastermind behind Megan Mckenna’s look at the National Television Awards which wowed the crowd. We caught up with Jack as he revealed the inspiration behind the look and how he created it.
Reigning Champion of Celebrity X-Factor, Megan Mckenna, supported a grungy pink look on the red carpet in London last month at one of the biggest events in television – the NTA’s.
Jack worked on Megan’s hair for a total of two days to produce the much-anticipated, Hayley Bieber inspired up do. Hayley’s pink updo was created by well-known hair guru Jen Atkin, and showcased on the red carpet in Cannes.
Jack began the prep two days prior to the event using Bleach London’s Rose Gold Semi-Permanent Cream. On the big day, Jack used a wash-out pink dye and left the product on for slightly longer than the bottle said to as he was after a slightly deeper shade of pink.
“We wanted to avoid anything too subtle and really achieve that ‘wow factor’. Megan was keen for the press to pick up that there was a total transformation, which is why we opted to go a little darker than Hayley did.”
Jack and Megan agreed that this was not your ‘typical’ red carpet look, and as Megan’s fifth year at the NTA’s, they both agreed it was time for something a little different. Jack revealed: “I wanted to make sure that Megan’s look was edgy and cool, rather than classic red carpet glam which you see a lot of.”
We were keen to find out if Jack had one particular product which was essential for creating this style: “Texturizing spray. Once Megan’s hair is washed, it tends to go quite ‘fly-away’ and flimsy which then makes it lack texture which is why this spray was a must-have.
“Texture was the main factor here and if it wasn’t executed, the look may have flopped.” It has been incredibly well received by both press and public, which Jack explained he was elated with.
Jack is known for being a ‘perfectionist’ and his style is usually very polished and refined which is why this look could have been a challenge for him but as always, he jumped at the opportunity to challenge himself.
“I really enjoyed being slightly pushed out of my comfort zone by a client and Megan was slightly out of hers too, so it was refreshing to be able to enjoy the task together.”
Jack notices that it’s always good to be versatile in this industry which is why he was pleased with the overall achievement. Stepping out of his comfort zone certainly paid off.
