Winter-Proof Your Hair with Gill Berry – Senior Creative Artist JOICO EMEA Team Member

After the winter months, the hair can often be left feeling dry, dull, and damaged. Our hair starts to suffer as a result of heat styling too often during party season, one too many slicked back styles and the drop in temperature outside! The cold weather drains the hair of any moisture, stripping the hair of its natural oils – sparking the slippery slope to dehydrated hair. This greatly impacts the hair’s structure, making it frizzier and more prone to breakage which nobody wants! If your client’s hair is in desperate need of a little extra love, here are my top tips for achieving happy, healthy, and hydrated after the winter months.

  1. Regular Trims

Regular trims are an essential for keeping the hair looking fresh and healthy. Getting a trim more frequently can help strengthen the ends and prevent breakage or damage. This is especially important if your client has long or fine hair. I recommend that my clients get a cut every 6 – 8 weeks to maintain their hair’s health. So many clients fear losing their length, but a trim will only benefit your hair. Once split ends begin to appear, the damage will continue to work its way up the stand, so getting a trim is a must to prevent further damage!

  1. Hair Mask

Hair masks can revitalise locks after the winter months – nourishing and conditioning your client’s strands. However, hair masks are not a one size fits all. If your client has been using a hair mask and they’re not seeing the results you’re after, then they’re probably using the wrong one for their hair type. Hair masks are specifically designed for different hair types and different hair concerns. If they’re looking for an ‘all-rounder’ mask that will deeply nourish and penetrate their strands throughout the colder months, I’d recommend the incredibly hydrating JOICO Deft Damage KBOND20 Power Masque which helps to build and protect bonds, instantly performing transformative results for hair that’s sick off the cold!

  1. Reduce Heat

During December, we often reach for the heat styling tools more with festive parties galore! In January, why not encourage your clients to embrace their hair’s natural texture and limit their use of heat styling tools. When they do use heat styling tools, then I’d recommend investing in a good quality heat protectant. I’d recommend using the NEW JOICO Dream Blowout Glass 72 hr Frizz Fighter – glass-like, shiny hair and heat protection in one bottle? It’s a no-brainer!
