Make 2026 the year you get noticed

Putting yourself out there can be daunting.  PR expert Emma Seldon shares some key pointers to get started.

Firstly, be clear about what you are looking to achieve and your goals for 2026.  Also, have in mind your niche, what you want to be featured on and what you are super passionate about, so that you can find the relevant opportunities that work for you.  Maybe you want to show off your expertise in colour work and get your work shared by a leading publication.

Next up, spend some time researching your opportunities.  You can raise your profile in so many ways, and not just the traditional features in trade magazines.  Publications also offer events, socials, awards, and podcasts.   See where you would fit in their regular features and what’s already been covered.  This research will really help when you come to pitch in to get featured.  There are even more opportunities within the hair industry to get involved in, and it’s key to keep an open mind and match to your original goals.  So colourists can consider the regular features, seasonal trends, and working with their colour brands at events for a start.

Many stylists struggle with the idea that they can do all of this for themselves.  “It’s a myth I hear often” explains Emma. “Stylists are not sure what to say, who to contact or even if what they say would be considered if it didn’t come from a PR agency. We encourage stylists to share their passion, work and words directly to get featured and noticed. It might be out of your comfort zone, but reach out.”

The last tip would be to block out time each week to work on raising your profile, so you can be consistent and keep one opportunity leading to another.   Most opportunities might also be months in advance, so keep a calendar to stay ahead and on track.
