Part 1: Your salon’s fanpage

Can a Facebook account be helpful in selling your services?

Facebook is the most popular social networking site worldwide and in the UK. Currently, there are between 35 and 40 million monthly active users in the country, with most visiting the site every day. The largest group of users are men and women aged between 25 and 34.

You can check the interests of Facebook users with Ads Manager – a special tool for creating Facebook adverts. Ads Manager tells us, for example, that 3.9 million UK Facebook users are keen on hairstyles, 14 million on hair products, 10 million on beauty salons, and 13 million on cosmetics. So it’s clear why it’s definitely worth salons having a presence on Facebook!

A fanpage, an event and advertising activities on Facebook are crucial elements in the process of effective communication with the clients of your beauty salon.

Fanpage

A fanpage is a key part of your company’s Facebook presence. You use it to communicate with people interested in your products and services, by updating your status and adding photos or links to the salon’s offers. Some salons even stop running their websites in favour of focusing on their Facebook fanpages only, as they find it makes connecting with clients much easier.

How to create a perfect fanpage on Facebook?

When creating a fanpage, there are a few basic rules to  bear in mind that will help you reach clients and help them find your page:

  1. The name of the fanpage – choose the name of your beauty salon.
  2. Page’s category – Facebook will ask you to categorise your fanpage and you can choose from: beauty, spas or personal care.
  3. Page info – here you can add all your salon information; location, opening hours, services, phone number, even information on parking spaces available nearby.
  4. Background photo – it’s an important feature of your fanpage and the biggest image seen by visitors. Try using a nice photo of the salon’s interior or a beautician. The optimum size of Facebook background photo is 851 x 315 pixels.
  5. Avatar – the best avatar is your salon’s logo. It should be a square of 180 x 180 pixels.

You can save all the changes by clicking Settings in the top right corner of the screen.

If you want to create graphic elements for your fanpage, you can use an effective, free application called Canva.com. It enables creating an avatar or a background photo of the appropriate size with just a few mouse clicks.
