Introducing Lava Shells…

Lava Shells are the world’s first self-heating massage tool, offering a seamless massage of heat and touch, with no loss of contact with the client.

There are two types of Lava Shell, a natural and a porcelain Shell.

For hundreds of years, the beautiful Tiger Striped Clams have been harvested for food and the shells thrown away. Now, the discarded shells are hand-selected for their size, shape, and structural integrity. They are then matched by size, sanded and polished, and bonded together to form the Lava Shells massage tool.

Being an organic product, natural Lava Shells will vary in size, shape, colour and pattern. The porcelain Lava Shells are handcrafted using high quality porcelain and crushed shells and have been cast from the ideal ergonomic natural shell and are uniform in size and thickness. Each Shell is then hand-painted, to replicate the appearance of natural Tiger Striped Clam shells.

Porcelain Lava Shells are used for training because they are the same size and thickness and are ideal for heat management. Therapists can purchase the natural Shells, one Shell is not better than the other, it is simply a matter of personal choice for each therapist.

How does it work?

A small sachet containing a blend of food-grade minerals is placed inside the Shell and a simple salt water activator is added, causing a natural exothermic reaction that will continue to generate heat for up to an hour. When the Lava Shell is used in massage, it will naturally transfer the heat to the body and the Shell will cool; when set aside to rest, the Shell will begin increasing in temperature giving the therapist full control and the ability to create a totally bespoke treatment for every client, and deliver results based on their individual needs.

How do I use the Lava Shell?

Due to the Lava Shells’ unique shape and angles they become an extension of the therapist’s hands, deploying deeply therapeutic relief to the client whilst helping to protect the therapist from RSI and general hand strain. The crown of the Lava Shell (replicating the palm of the hand) is a smooth, carefully polished, gently rounded surface and is the most versatile part of the Shell. It transmits the greatest amount of heat and is ideal for long broad strokes across major muscle groups, whilst tilting the crown slightly offers a deeper pressure. The hinge (replicating the thumb) is ideal to work into small, tight knots or problem areas and can be used for deep pressure work and on pressure points. The edge of every Shell is a smooth, jag-free surface and is great for working narrow areas such as around and under the shoulder blades or between the toes, and across large areas such as the back, or back of legs.

What are the advantages for therapists when using Lava Shells?

The Lava Shells require no electricity to heat up, and are ready to use in five to ten minutes, ideal for walk-in clients or up-selling.

With three heat levels; high, medium, and mild – and a Glacial Shell – you can offer a bespoke treatment to your clients and deliver results based on their needs.

Just three Lava Shells are required for a full body massage, making them portable and they can be used anywhere; they are ideal for mobile therapists.

Shells are non-porous so they will not absorb bacteria, massage oils, or dead skin cells, making them hygienic and easy to clean.

The Lava Gel sachets contain natural ingredients that are non-toxic and biodegradable. After treatment, used sachets can be placed in a food waste bin or on a compost heap, and the packets are also recyclable.

The Lava Shells are light and easy to use, fitting perfectly into the therapist’s hand.

Therapists that have trained in Lava Shells Relax or Rescue may purchase Molten Lava Stones without any additional training. Molten Lava Stones, created from a blend of real seashells, black lava rock and porcelain, use the same natural, biodegradable heat technology as Lava Shells, and offer all the benefits of traditional hot stones, but with the added indulgence of continued touch time. Only three Molten Lava Stones are needed for a full body massage.

You can promote Lava Shells as an add-on, or ‘LavaShot’, to many different treatments, enhancing your client’s experience and introducing them to something new.

A Lava Shells 15 Minute Seated Massage offers you the opportunity to work on your client’s back, neck and shoulders – perfect for your busy clients with work and social commitments.

Lava Shells can be used over clothes, making them ideal for pamper parties and seasonal events and giving you the opportunity to introduce your clients to Lava Shells.
