Glasgow salon NAF! has been named winner of PRS for Music’s Music Makeover Salons competition, taking home a £5,000 prize to revamp the beauty haven’s soundsystem.
As part of the celebrations, which happily coincided with NAF!’s second birthday, PRS for Music held a special launch party, followed by exclusive live performances from Edinburgh’s Elle Exxe and Dundee’s Be Charlotte at The Art School. Both acts are PRS for Music members who have also previously been funded by the PRS Foundation, the UK’s leading funder of new music and talent development across all genres.
More than 300 salons from around the UK entered to win the national Music Makeover prize, with applications received country-wide from Glasgow to Cornwall. As well as a soundsystem upgrade, which includes a bespoke music consultancy from globally renowned producer Steve Levine (The Clash, Beach Boys), the prize also included an exclusive event, held on Thursday 15th June.
Music plays a vital role in NAF!’s customer experience; based in the centre of Glasgow, the business’ clientele ranges from high-flying businesswomen to a trendier younger crowd, all of whom find common ground through the eclectic yet upbeat sounds of the salon. While music and style have always gone together, NAF! has made sure that their catchy mash-up playlists form the core of their business, which ultimately secured them the top prize from PRS for Music.
PRS for Music launched the annual Music Makeover competition seven years ago for the pub sector, and the following year to salons and more recently restaurants and fashion retailers. The aim of the competition is to showcase and raise awareness of how important music is to local businesses; from the quality of the sound system, to acoustics, volume and playlists, music has a huge impact on both customers and staff.
“I’m really happy NAF! in Glasgow has won this year’s Music Makeover Salons competition,” said PRS Chairman Nigel Elderton. “They clearly understand the power of music and how it can positively impact their business alongside a real strong sense of brand, which was very impressive.”
Salon owner Tammy Koslowski commented, “We’re well known for our catchy playlists and fun atmosphere at NAF! Salon – our passion for music helps us connect with our clients and keeps our brand alive so we’re very excited to have won the Music Makeover competition. Thank you PRS for Music!”
