Salon of the month: November

The history of this beautiful building that houses Perfectly Posh Hair Design in Hungerford is something that salon owner Krysia Eddery loves, and she says it is a brilliant conversation starter amongst clients too, being Grade II Listed…

The building was previously owned by Henry VIII for one of his (many) wives and it has survived both wars, which is incredible. The endless character the building offers, along with the charming quaint exterior that you would not expect to be home to a hair and beauty salon is something I love – that element of surprise is something I get a real buzz from. The renovation process of our new premises took us around three months from start to finish. I was lucky in that my family were able to complete a lot of the work so we were able to work literally around the clock to get it finished as quickly as possible and get the salon up and running.

I wanted to create a haven for clients, a real retreat for them to come in and forget the hustle and bustle of their daily lives whilst enjoying a truly luxurious pampering experience; a completely relaxed and zen-like environment for clients to feel at home and able to fully unwind. We never rush clients out of the door and pride ourselves on the time we dedicate to each client, a leisurely approach to hair and beauty.

As the building is older and somewhat quirky we have been able to create zones within the salon which differentiate from one another. For example, our backwash area is set off from the main salon floor and as a result we have been able to create a completely calming space which encourages clients to enjoy their head massage and relax. The lighting in the backwash area is something I am really proud of, after seeing something similar online at a high price I decided to be both creative and resourceful and attempt to create it myself!

The colour scheme within the salon is fairly neutral in terms of the walls and flooring, and we have added accents of purple to add a touch of opulence and elegance. Purple cushions in the waiting area tie in with our logo and add an air of indulgence. This is also mirrored in our beauty rooms with purple towels covering our massage beds and again at our manicure stations. Purple is traditionally associated with royalty, luxury and grandeur and this was something we really looked into before deciding to utilise it both in our logo and the interior of the salon.

The walls in the salon are covered in natural, off-white paint. This simplistic selection was very deliberate as I wanted to create a clean and calm canvas on the walls as this aids relaxation and encourages you to free your mind of busy thoughts. We added sumptuous mirrors finished with ornate embellishment in an antique gold finish to bring in that air of extravagance again and paired them with simple sconce lighting. In the cutting and styling area there are sections of the walls that are covered in reclaimed wooden scaffolding boards.  The coffee tables in the styling area are also a focal point of the design in the salon as they were made from an old oak tree that was seen as unfit for use from the merchants. I managed to get my hands on it and we turned it into beautiful, solid oak coffee tables which works so well in the space and symbolise our efforts to be resourceful during the renovation process.

The reception area greets you as you walk in to the salon, our reception desk is straight ahead, opposite from the front door so you are always met with a smiley face that will be able to assist you. Our waiting area is slightly off set to the left as you walk into the salon and is set up for four clients comfortably with a coffee table to encourage conversation and relaxation. We specialise in all things hair from extensions, to cutting and colouring as well as hair ups and smoothing treatments. We also offer beauty therapy services from manicures to massage and brows.

We are an Aveda concept salon and use the entire Aveda hair and beauty range.

I am currently part of the Fellowship Colour Project for 2018 and it has been a busy year embarking on this new and exciting journey whilst developing my skills and abilities to share with my team. The team are also hosting an exclusive event in the salon to welcome members of the local press and key influencers as well as VIP clients. We love to celebrate and give something back at Perfectly Posh and this is the perfect way to do so.

I take a great sense of pride in the fact that a number of features within the salon are from recycled material and I love that we have given old tatty items a second lease of life, and I am also very proud of the light I created in the backwash area myself.
