Take care, and after-care!

There have been many recent stories in the mainstream press, particularly with Love Island, on how poor their extensions look!

The main cause is generally down to the aftercare regime being either ignored or only partially undertaken. Johnny Yip, Managing Director of Zen Luxury Extensions, offers a few simple tips to pass on to clients on looking after their extensions.

“Prior to installation, always ensure the client’s hair is washed with a clarifying treatment shampoo and no conditioner to remove all oil and product residues,” he said. “This is to avoid slippage of bonds and loss of extension strands. Their hair should be fully dry and free of styling products to provide the best base for application.

“There are many situations where clients will need to be aware of how their extensions will react. These can be from being in the sun on holiday or swimming, to everyday occurrences like sleeping, brushing, and styling. The most common question is washing and drying. When washing, it is essential that clients only use sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner products like our Zen Aftercare range. These products have been specifically designed to protect the keratin bonds and extensions. When drying, they should apply a Protein Spray or use an oil/serum and dry the extension bonds first, using the cool setting on their hairdryer. Never use the hot setting as this can melt the bonds over a period of time.”

Making sure clients are aware of aftercare is also key.

“Client’s happiness is paramount, and a simple aftercare tip sheet is a sure-fire way of detailing the most common situations and advice to clients on how to deal with their extensions in each circumstance,” Johnny advised.
