Beauty: from the inside out
Coming out of winter it’s time to give skin some serous TLC! Elaine Headley of FrshFced offers her top tips for internal and external skin care.
There is no time like the present to give your skin some well deserved TLC. Winter weather can have a huge effect on our skin. The harsh cold weather can irritate the delicate skin on our hands and face, causing it to become very dry and stripped of its natural moisture. This in turn can lead to redness and excess dead skin cells clogging up our pores.
Additionally the increased use of artificial heating within our homes and work environments creates drier atmospheres for us to live and work in. This reduced humidity increases water evaporation from our bodies, causing dehydration. We often fail to recognise this source of dehydration as it doesn’t cause sweating, therefore we frequently fail to drink sufficient fluids to maintain ideal levels of hydration – and then end up with dry, flaking and red skin.
So how can we protect our skin from the harshness of the winter climate?
Well to start with we can moisturise from the inside. OK, I can hear you all saying ”How do we do that?”
Well here are my top tips, for internal moisturisation.
Healthy fats
This is your body’s secondary source of heat and energy and its primary source for fat soluble vitamins. So, plenty of whole foods containing good fats will dramatically improve your skin’s tone and texture. Try avocados, lean meats like chicken, fish or turkey, eggs, pumpkin seeds and nuts (not the dry roasted type!).
Eat your 5 a day, every day
Mother nature has provided us with all the minerals and vitamins we need to stay healthy, so we should not ignore her. The natural salts in vegetables and fruit will also help you to retain water and stay a little more hydrated. And let’s not forget about the antioxidants that are so important to fight against free radicals, which can be a way of maintaining cell preservation to fight against ageing.
Hydrate!
As I stated earlier, we don’t always recognise that we are dehydrating in the winter due to the lack of visible sweat. However we lose around 1 litre of unseen fluid daily, known as our insensible loss. That simply means we don’t see the fluid loss. In the summer months fluid loss is easier to see, but we are still losing it in the winter. So keep up with the water consumption.
Exercise
So important to maintain a good muscular skeletal frame and improve our circulation, which will most certainly deliver all those yummy nutrients to your skin.
Well now you all know what you should be doing for internal moisturisation, let’s look at the external elements we need to look great.
So, skin care…
Of course I am without doubt advocating you use the natural goodness of FrshFced! This organic health for your skin is the first step you need to take for beautiful skin and picture perfect make up.
Step 1: Cleanse
Use a suitable cleanser for your skin. As this is the winter and we have been talking about the effects this climate has, I would suggest you opt for a cream cleanser that will help moisturise as it cleanses. The FrshFced Cucumber Cleanser is a natural lotion infused with cucumber extract. It is gentle and soothing and provides hydration, as well as being a natural source of essential vitamins and anti-oxidants.
To ensure you remove all the excess dead skin cells you should exfoliate twice weekly. Here I would suggest you use the FrshFced Sugar Scrub. This exhilarating scrub will awaken your skin from any winter slumber. Rich in honey for natural hydration and a combination of oils to ensure your skin is conditioned, refreshed and renewed.
Step 2: Toner
Many people overlook using a toner, but it is an essential step in your routine. The function of toner is to capture any debris your initial cleanse may have missed. In the winter months you should avoid an alcohol based toner, as this may dry your skin further. The FrshFced Orange Aloe Toner is infused with sweet orange essential oil. This refreshing toner completes the cleansing process by removing excess oils and impurities left by a cleanser. The formula is rich in vitamin C providing anti-oxidising properties which help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The sweet orange essential oil cleanses pores and helps to remove dead skin cells and the Aloe Vera base helps resets the skin’s pH.
Step 3: Moisturise
Chose a moisturiser that will give you the best protection from the weather. Dry and flaky skin can have beautiful results from Aloe Vera, and the FrshFced Aloe Vera Moisturiser, rich in Shea butter, Aloe Vera and oat kernel is soothing and suitable for all skin types.
Alternatively you can try using a serum. The Radiance Serum from FrshFced is rich in Jojoba Oil, Avocado and Vitamins C & A to brighten and tone your skin. This delicious serum also contains Strawberry extract which is perfect for cell regeneration.
Step 4: Primer
This step will without doubt allow you to have picture-perfect make-up. Creating a velvety smoothness to your skin, a primer evens out skin tone and disguises flaws. It can reduce oil and shine, and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The effects from the FrshFced Age Erasing Primer is immediate. This luxury high-end primer is a must in your last step before applying your make up.
I hope that considering your internal and external skin care has been helpful. There are many fabulous products available to achieve this, however if its organic health for your skin you are looking for, then FrshFced is where you will find it!
