BLOG: Top 3 hair and beauty trends for the festive season by Salon Services trend team

With Christmas fast approaching, hair and beauty professionals are facing one of their busiest times of year. Now’s the time to start making the most of the party season and ensure you capitalise on the seasonal demand by offering the hottest winter hair and beauty trends. 

To help you out, the Trend Team at the UK’s largest professional hair and beauty supplier, Salon Services, share the top festive trends you should be offering your clients:

1. The Ronze

The latest ‘Ronze’ trend – a combination of auburn and bronze tones – is the perfect colour to help take your clients from autumn to winter. The rich tones complement most skin types, and with so many shades to play with, the look can be tailored to any client.

How to (for hair base level 7 and above):

1. Mix three parts XP100 7.3 Tube Colour with one part XP100 7.4 Tube Colour and 20 Vol developer (developer ratio 1:1).

2. Apply the colour using a traditional hot cross bun segmentation – centre front to centre back nape, ear to ear.

3. To create a more intense ‘ronze’ mix equal parts of both colour creams.

How to (for hair base level 5-6):

1. Mix equal amounts of XP100 6.3 Colour Tube and XP100 6.4 Colour Tube with 20 Vol developer (developer ratio 1:1).
2. As above, apply using the hot cross bun segmentation process.
3. For a multi tonal ‘ronze’ add diagonal slices of XP100 6.46 Colour Tube using meche with 20 vol developer to create more depth and tone. 

Finishing touch:

This colour technique creates an expensive finish so glossy shine is key. To keep hair in tiptop condition after the treatment try recommending a colour protecting shampoo.

 2. Écaille  

Écaille (French for tortoiseshell) is already growing in demand. This method, claimed to be the new balayage, mixes golden lights with darker richer caramel tones and incorporates shades of honey, amber, golden blonde and dark brown paired with gloss. Not as dramatic as ombré but less subtle than blond, this technique is a perfect alternative to offer clients.

How to (for base level hair 4-6):

1. Using alternative large weaves highlight the length and ends of the hair using XP100 Blue Bleach mixed with 20 Vol Oxycream and 3 Warm Light Blonde mixed with 30 Vol Oxycream
2. By leaving the clients natural roots and using weaved highlights you’ll create the tortoise shell effect on the hair

How to (transforming an existing balayage):

1. Add large slices of XP100 7.3 Medium Gold Blonde with 20 Vol Oxycream to break up the blocked blonde on mid length and ends

Finishing touch:

Try creating a messy finish to complement the edgy tones of Écaille using a product like Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo.

 3. Graphic Eyes

Oversized bold eyeliner and graphic eyes are key for this party season. It’s all about creating geometric shapes around the eye like the sweeping feline shaped trend created using a long-lasting eyeliner.

How to:

1. Start at the outer corner of your eye and draw a line angled up towards the edge of your brow with a long-lasting eyeliner like Lord & Berry’s Silk Kajal Eyeliner

2. Take this line across the lid to the inner corner and fill in. Don’t be afraid to go bold!

3. Returning to the outer edge, draw a line from the flick going under the eye, using a lighter hand past the centre of the lashline

4 .Slightly blend out eyeliner under the lower lashes using a precision brush

Finishing touch:

The graphic eyes will give the wow factor in this look, so keep other make-up fresh and simple with a rose coloured blush and light pink lip like Lord & Berry’s Twistick in Pinkmania.
