The search is on!
Having good skin is something many take for granted. But, says Elaine Headley of FrshFced, confidence can be shaken when the complexion is less than clear.
We have all heard the saying that ‘beauty is skin deep’, well, in the real world things are not so simple! Beauty, or at least the feeling of being beautiful, is much more than skin deep, and without that feeling, we all suffer from esteem and confidence issues. Our skin is most certainly our outward view to our potential inner beauty, which is what people see before seeing anything else. So, making that outward visual appearance as pleasant as we can is very important.
Our Background
Over the past five years working in the world of aesthetics, and the 30 years prior to that working in the world of health care, I have often come across so many people who don’t feel their own self-worth which can often be attributed to body image, their looks and the preconceived judgement of what others might think of them. Yes, a lot of this was often related to illness, but not always. Trying to reassure people that their beauty is more than just skin deep is no easy task. We now live in a world where we are all under a microscope. Every little flaw is over analysed and the need to correct them is massive. Of course, the cruelty of social media is also all too often the platform used to criticise our flaws. The thing is we all have them, perfection just doesn’t exist, except maybe sometimes in our minds!
Working in aesthetics was most definitely the precursor to creating the FrshFced brand. I had clients having expensive treatments to improve the lines and wrinkles on their face, hands and neck, or to re-establish lost volume and definition in their cheeks or lips. They all had good results, but many of them would have had better results if their skin care had been much better. So paring things back to a basic level became important.
Impact
Recognising how the visual appearance of both men and women, of all ages, living with the effects of acne, dull or lifeless looking skin impacted on their daily living became important.
Things that can impact on your complexion:
- Stress
- Lack of sleep
- Dehydration
- Poor diet
- Age
- Illness
- Inadequate or inconsistent skin care regimes
All teenagers, without exception have spots. It’s all part of their body changing and there is nothing you can do to prevent those changes from happening. The degree of spots you’ll experience is very variable. Where those spots will appear is also very variable. But face, neck, back and chest areas are all up for grabs! As you leave your teenage years, things do settle, but may not entirely disappear. Other skin conditions can be related to the environment, allergies or idiopathic (cause remains unknown), or indeed the legacy of bad teenage acne.
So, let’s manage the things we can, and keep this very visible organ looking the best we can.
Keeping this massive organ (your body’s largest) hydrated and well-nourished is the starting block for all good skin care. Then keeping it clean allows it to breath and function properly.
Looking at all these issues, I decided to ask my FrshFced customers why they buy and like my products so much. The feedback has always been good, but I wanted to know more.
The responses were an eye opener to me. For example:
- The sugar scrub improved one teenager’s skin so much, it not only improved her self-confidence, it also meant she didn’t need hormone treatment from her GP.
- Others liked the quick, long lasting result they got from using the products.
- Others like that the products were all natural. This was important, as they knew that nature was taking care of their skin.
With all this in mind and looking at how I could boost their confidence even more, I decided to open competitions twice a year. So, the launch of the ‘Face of FrshFced’ was born. The idea was to allow customers who used the product range to enter the competition where the winner would have a day’s modelling, with a selection of the images to keep, a goodie bag of products, inclusion on our website gallery, and, of course, the experience of being the ‘Face of FrshFced.’
The concept was launched at the start of 2018 with a pilot, which turned out to be an amazing success.
Meet Lucy, our first Face of FrshFced. This beauty had some awful teenage skin acne, which left her with confidence issues – but she is now a confident young woman, ready to tackle anything. Lucy has been using the sugar scrub for two years, and it shows!
Then the Spring/Summer competition was launched in March 2018. We had an overall winner and two runners up.
The current Face of FrshFced is Olivia, a quiet 15-year-old girl, who continuous to have the clearest of complexion by using not only the sugar scrub, but also the Radiance Serum.
These young people have had an incredible boost to their confidence, realising that they are beautiful – and having clear skin has helped them achieve this.
